Dog Supplements – Are they Necessary?

Before you even consider dog supplements, remember that good nutrition starts with what you put into your dog’s bowl each day.

And, if you’re feeding them a good-quality food and they’re leading an active and healthy lifestyle, chances are that supplements may not be necessary for quite a while yet.

Dogs need six essential classes of nutrients to live a healthy life – these are water, protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals.

Now, unlike us humans whos diet may vary day-to-day and week to week, dogs will have the same food day in and day out. Meaning that if you’re feeding them a good-quality food, they are unlikely need a vitamin supplement, for example.

Are dog supplements necessary?

Each individual dog may require more or less of certain essentials. This could be for a variety of reasons, for example; their age, genetics or lifestyle.

Meaning, that in some cases, food alone may not meet all your dog’s health requirements and using a supplement can adjust any deficiencies in your dog’s daily diet.

Most dogs won’t need supplements until they are much older, however, some dogs may require supplements from an earlier age.
